Papers of Ira Manley, a Markesan, Wis. doctor who served as an army surgeon during the Civil War, as a member of the state legislature, and as president of the State Medical Society. Letters during his military service describe discipline and conditions of soldiers in the Wilderness and Petersburg campaigns. Postwar correspondence with colleagues concerns both personal and professional matters, and includes a few descriptions of symptoms, diagnoses, and projected treatment of patients.
